The best way to introduce your little one to Christianity is by providing them with books appropriate for their age. Children are curious and eager to have answers on almost everything.

For that reason, it is necessary to find a literature piece that presents Christianity while answering questions such as “what is God like?”, “why is there evil in the world?”, and much more.

To help you, we have created a list of the best Christian children’s books, including Kindle, hardcover, and paperback formats. Let’s get started!

Christian Children’s Books

What Is God Like?

Christian Children’s Books What Is God Like?

Written by Rachel Held Evans, who died in May 2019, this is one of the most popular books for preschoolers. While the late New York Times bestselling author didn’t witness the official premiere, her friend, Matthew Paul Turner made sure to release the book.

Available in two formats - Kindle and hardcover - it is perfect for children between the ages of 2 and 6. It offers 40 pages of written material accompanied by beautiful depictions of biblical stories and characters.

Review

Many have tried to answer the question “what is God like?”. God is represented as a ubiquitous yet beneficent mystery, above all, through love. God is addressed by male, female, and nonbinary pronouns and qualities throughout the book.

While many of the traits discussed originate from Scripture, particularly the Psalms, it is not necessary to believe in the Bible as Scripture to appreciate this book.

Despite the author's self-identification as a Christian, and a passing mention of the Christian idea of the Trinity, this is not an openly Christian piece. On the contrary, we do consider it to be a valuable book for theists in general.

Vibrant graphics emphasize the comfortable and all-encompassing quality of God's presence with soft, rounded curves and flowing patterns. Especially when the scripture compares God to the three dancers' elegance.

What you'll appreciate about this book is that it takes a different approach to the mystery of God than other books that take a strict view of how God operates, with no opportunity for you to be astounded by the Divine's multifaceted beauty.

Many Christian authors are following Rachel's path and are beginning to express the mystery of God in their writings for adults and children in a loving manner.

The book is written in a very understandable manner; a preschooler shouldn’t have any problems understanding it. Most importantly, it offers a calming tone.

In our experience, we felt as though Rachel was reading this book to us, explaining and answering the complex questions that children would ask.

To be honest, we didn’t find anything wrong with it. Still, we understand that the fact that it doesn’t take a conservative and traditional theological approach may be an issue for someone.

On the other hand, we consider it to be a vibrant and innovative piece of work that both you and your little one should read.

Pros

  • Available in Kindle and hardcover
  • Comes at an affordable price
  • Features a variety of biblical illustrations
  • Presents God as vibrant and loving
  • Calming tone, simple to understand

Cons

  • Less traditional approach (represents an issue for some readers)

How Great Is Our God: 100 Indescribable Devotions About God and Science (Indescribable Kids)

How Great Is Our God Book

One of the best-selling Christian authors, Louie Giglio, continues to do great work after his initial hit 100 Devotions About God and Science.

This literature piece comes as a sequel and aims to address a wide variety of topics and questions that children between the ages of 6 and 10 would gladly ask.

With that in mind, it is a fantastic way to continue what Rachel started with the aforementioned book.

Review

Firstly, we want to discuss the format of this book. It comes in Kindle and hardcover, both set at a reasonable price. The printed version comes in English and is set at 208 pages of written work, scientific art, and vibrant illustrations.

Among many subjects, Louie openly talks about animals, plants, science, earth, water, and much more.

God and Science makes an excellent devotional for children to enjoy while learning about our magnificent planet. Throughout the book, there are full-color photographs and comical artworks.

At the start of the book, there is a presentation page as well as a table of contents. This is aimed towards children aged 6 to 10. It is suitable for both girls and boys.

Keep in mind that each devotional is set at two pages. The devotions cover a variety of scientific topics including blinking eyes, astronomy, weather, living organisms, and much more.

One of the coolest points is that on every two pages you will find a section with trivia and "how great" information. Throughout the devotional, all of the subjects are jumbled together.

You can utilize the devotional by day or by jumping around to focus on a specific topic. A reference page is available that covers the four primary areas of People, Earth, Space, and Animals.

The book comes with a blue cover depicting all of the children in various locations throughout the globe.

And, as you can see from the photos, the inside is just as appealing, featuring photographs of children that would pique any young reader’s interest.

The devotions are written at the level of someone who is 6 to 10 years old, are brief, and easy to grasp.

Our main issue? The fact is that the thought cards are thin and likely to fall apart with heavier use. Other than that, it is an inspiring devotional that you should consider purchasing.

Pros

  • Covers an array of scientific topics
  • Comes with a “how great” section for each devotion
  • Perfect for children between 6 and 10 years of age
  • Features scientific art and comic artwork
  • Understandable, short, and brief devotional sections

Cons

  • Thin thought cards, likely to fall apart

My Little Library: Stories of Jesus (12 Board Books)

My Little Library: Stories of Jesus (12 Board Books)

Moving on with our list of the best Christian children’s books, we present you with a literature piece published by Little Grasshopper Books on July 16, 2021.

Coming in a hardcover format, you are getting a set of 12 10-page books, each presenting a story from the life of our savior, Jesus Christ. It is highlighted by vibrant illustrations and a simple yet inspiring language that children of any age will enjoy.

Most importantly, all the books are set at 3 x 3 inches and come with a reliable storage box.

Review

The twelve board books are made to cover a variety of inspiring life stories, including the Birth and the Miracle of Jesus, the story of a Good Samaritan, the story depicting the Prodigal Son, Sermon on the Mount, and many more.

While the publisher suggests that it is a product suitable for kids between 0 and 5 years of age, we think that anyone can enjoy this set of stories.

Not only children, but also adults who want to remember their beginnings with Christianity and read inspiring stories of Christ will enjoy these whimsical illustrations.

It doesn’t offer Bible excerpts and verses. Although some readers may consider it to be a downside, we think that there should be books with illustrations and stories that are simple to read and understand.

Thus, Little Grasshopper Books did a fantastic job with this product. It is great to know that the hardcover format is made to last and that you won’t have to worry about your little one trying to tear through the paper.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t come in a Kindle format. Overall, the My Little Library: Stories of Jesus is a worthy collection of board books depicting the Miracles of Jesus and his life path.

Pros

  • Offers 12 10-page books
  • Covers Miracles and the Life of Jesus
  • Available in a sturdy hardcover format
  • Highlighted by whimsical illustrations and simple-to-read text
  • For all ages

Cons

  • Not available in Kindle

The Beginner’s Bible: Timeless Children’s Stories

The Beginner’s Bible: Timeless Children’s Stories

Available in a free audio format, Kindle, and a sturdy hardcover, you are looking at a 512-page book (printed) that is perfect for second and third graders.

Issued by the Beginner’s Bible, which has been a leading brand in this sphere for the past few decades, it is a reformatted literature piece that was first released 25 years ago.

The coolest part about it? It isn’t exclusive to children, but rather can be read by adults and pastors who want to reflect on inspiring Bible stories through vibrant illustrations and simple-to-read text.

Review

A thematically arranged book, the Beginner’s Bible features more than 90 different stories, starting with Noah’s Ark through prophets such as Jonah, all the way to the work of Christ’s disciples.

The fact that it is understandable and can be read at any age is the main reason why Timeless Children’s Stories is so popular.

Suitable for individual and group study, you don’t have to worry about this book breaking down; it is sturdy and made to withstand heavy everyday use.

Keep in mind that although teachers and pastors can enjoy it in their free time, it should not be considered the real Word of God. It serves as a foundation for novices and as an introduction to the subject.

On the other hand, Bible tale books are a fantastic tool to have on hand for introducing a young kid to the Bible and the basics of God's Word.

You can read one or a variety of stories so that your youngster can be exposed to the numerous "tellings" and "illustrative styles" used by authors and artists to bring what God reveals to people in his word to life.

Colorful visuals grab and hold the attention of newborns and toddlers. The brief paragraphs will appeal to preschoolers and early readers, who will find it easy to follow along while reading.

For older siblings, this is a fantastic opportunity to act as instructors by reading it aloud or simply listening and correcting as needed.

Each narrative has a title and a Scripture reference to help you keep track of where you are in between reads. Another benefit is the back-of-the-book dictionary, which clarifies any misunderstandings.

Our main issue? The fact that certain stories are too short (4 sentences). Other than that, it is an inspiring and beginner-friendly Christian children’s book.

Pros

  • It covers 94 different stories, beginning at Noah’s Ark
  • Available in a variety of formats including audio, Kindle, and hardcover
  • Highlighted by whimsical illustrations
  • Simple to read with an extensive dictionary for new words
  • Made for everyday use

Cons

  • Certain stories are too short (4 sentences)

365 Bible and Prayers Padded Treasury

365 Bible and Prayers Padded Treasury

Designed as one of the best gifts for Christmas or baptism, this book was published by Cottage Door on October 2, 2018. Available in a hardcover format, it is set at 384 pages and is suitable for preschoolers between the ages of 3 and 6.

It doesn’t only include inspiring biblical stories, but also prayers and vibrant illustrations that are sure to grab the attention of your little one. Overall, this book features more than 200 different stories that are presented simply and understandably.

Review

It stands out for its exceptional quality and content, as well as the small prayers and teachings after the book. The illustrations are excellent. It is ideal for children of any age, especially those with a short attention span.

All of the stories are between one and three pages in length, ensuring that no one gets bored. The cover is of excellent quality and may be used daily without tearing or wearing out prematurely.

This adaptation of Bible stories for kids is fantastic. It is superior to any other we discovered in that it has more stories, and puts them neatly into categories, such as Abraham and Sarah, Jacob and Esau, and so on.

If you're reading it to children aged 3 to 5, be aware that some of the stories are tough and you may need to revisit them after a year, depending on how the child handles traumatic situations.

It is awesome for beginners and offers over 200 stories, which means that your little one will stay occupied for months, if not years.

Our issue? It doesn’t come with as many whimsical illustrations. Other than that, it is an attractive set of biblical stories that you shouldn’t miss out on.

Pros

  • Comes at an affordable price
  • Available in a sturdy hardcover format
  • Perfect for children with a short attention span
  • More than 200 inspiring stories
  • Simple to understand

Cons

  • Not a lot of illustrations

Wrap Up

To be honest, you won’t go wrong no matter what Christian children’s book you choose (of the mentioned five). Our personal favorite is What is God Like? as the author offers an innovative and vibrant approach to explaining the mystery of our Creator.

Our second choice? How Great Is Our God: 100 Indescribable Devotions About God and Science as it covers a variety of scientific topics through simple answers and artwork.
