Can Christianity and Astrology Coexist?

Today, when you buy a magazine or a newspaper, you will find some sort of horoscope.
This means the world has magnified astrology so much that most Christians feel are in and it is part of life.
Many Christians use astrology and other different ways to predict their future.
Some even identify their children with various stars, moons, and planets.
However, there are many other Christians who believe astrology gives the power of God Almighty to stars and planets.
They believe true Christians should not associate themselves with astrology.
But what does the bible say about these two topics?
And can a person be a Christian and believe in astrology?
Can Christianity and astrology Coexist?
According to Wikipedia, astrology is an ancient belief that people’s fate can be found in the alignment of the moons, planets, and stars.
It like saying that someone’s destiny is not in the hands of God the creator but in other things such as stars and planets.
But according to the Bible, all things come from God, and He knows everything.
So, when someone depends on stars, planets, or other powers, it is acknowledging that God is not the Higher Power.
Therefore, Christianity and astrology cannot coexist.
A true Christian does not need astrology to determine his destiny; He or she turns to God’s word for guidance.
Prophet Isaiah spoke about astrologers with mockery.
Isaiah 14:13 – You are powerless despite the advice you get. Let your astrologers come forward and save you, those people who study the stars, who map out the zones of the heavens, and tell you from month to month what is going to happen to you.
Also, when you read chapter 2 of the book of Daniel, you will see how astrologers thought they knew what was going to happen based on how the stars lined up.
Daniel 2:27 – Daniel replied, “Your Majesty, there is no wizard, magician, fortuneteller, or astrologer who can tell you that.
Daniel 2:28 – But there is a God in heaven, who reveals mysteries…..
This means it is not possible to know the future unless God directs you.
For someone to know about the future, this can only happen through prophets or when God speaks to someone directly.
Another reason Christianity and astrology cannot coexist is that astrologers worship and depend on other gods and deities.
And one of the Ten Commandments of God is that you should worship no other god. (Exodus 20:3)
Thus, it is clear from the Bible that Christianity and astrology are two systems that cannot mix.
But some Christians argue that the divine power in astrology is the divine power from God.
According to them, the wise men used the stars to know where Baby Jesus was born.
But in this case, God used the stars to show them the location where baby Jesus was born.
In addition, astrologers base their future and fate on celestial objects and not on God, the creator of those heavenly objects.
Again, the Bible is very clear that people should not practice prophecy or soothsaying, and people should not use familiar spirits.
Leviticus 20:6 – As for the person who turns to mediums and to spirits, to play the harlot after them, I will also set My face against that person and will cut him off from among his people.
What is Astrology?
According to Wikipedia, astrology is a type of science or divination that claims to forecast human affairs and worldly events through the study of celestial objects.
Astrologers believe they can forecast human events by observing the Sun, Moon, Stars, and other heavenly objects.
Based on history, astrology goes back to the Old Babylon period of 2000 BC.
Thus, the practice is not new and people who believe in it use the Zodiac signs to match them with their personality.
Even though it has been considered a science for a long time, some people view it as a religion with numerous followers.
They are people who worship and base all their fate on astrology.
For instance, in ancient times, the stars were used to inform the kings and the royal court of any looming disaster or success.
But today, astrology is used to inform individuals of their destiny and fate based on the arrangement of planets and stars.
Normally, astrology studies the relationship between celestial object movements and social groupings and nations.
This means people who follow astrology based their future on the heavenly bodies and not on God or Jesus Christ.
Therefore, astrology can be viewed as offensive to God, since it gives power to the stars and planets when it actually belongs to God.
What does the bible say about astrology?
According to the Bible, God has made his position on astrology known.
Here are some bible verses that show God’s stance concerning astrology.
Deuteronomy 29:29–The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things which are revealed and disclosed belong to us and our children forever, so that we may do all the words of this law.
Micah 5:12–I will destroy the magic charms you use and leave you with no fortunetellers.
Isaiah 47:13–You are wearied by your many counsels. Just let the astrologers, the stargazers, those who predict by the new moons stand up and save you from the things that will come upon you.
Deuteronomy 18:10-11 – Don’t sacrifice your children in the fires on your altars, and don’t let your people practice divination or look for omens or use spells or charms, and don’t let them consult the spirits of the dead.
Final Words
Astrology and Christianity are two practices that cannot mix.
Christians believe in the word of God and turn to it for guidance and protection.
On the other hand, followers of astrology follow science and futile hints about their future.
Happily, throughout the Bible, Christians are assured that God will guide them all the time.
