How to Pray More Effectively

Prayer is one of the most powerful gifts, and it has never been more important for God’s people to be on their knees.
Of course, knowing how to pray is not always easy – even Jesus’ disciples felt the same confusion that you do now.
If you want to be able to pray more effectively and grow closer to God, you’ve come to the right place.
Here are some key practices that will help you develop a more effective and meaningful prayer life.
Read on for more information about how to pray more effectively in your own life.
Know to Whom You Are Speaking
Prayer is our way of conversing with God, and every conversation begins by addressing the person to whom you are speaking, by name.
Jesus began his prayers with ‘Our Father in heaven,’ – focusing on a specific person.
We share his same right to call God ‘Father’, and there are times when we need to talk with Him. But He is three distinct persons in One, as you know.
In prayer, it can help to focus on which of the Holy Trinity you need to talk to.
You might find yourself talking to Jesus more often; after all, he is a friend closer than a brother and the Saviour of your soul.
But you should also call out to the Holy Spirit, who empowers you to do the tasks that God has called on you to do.
Having a good sense of who you are speaking with will help you converse properly and say the things you want to say.
Ask for the Will of God in Your Life
In the Garden of Gethsemane, hours before Jesus was crucified, he would once again pray, ‘Not my will, but yours be done.’
Where wrong and right are frequently confused, and the future is endlessly uncertain, it can be challenging to know what to ask for and how to pray when difficulties present themselves.
One thing that we can know with absolute certainty, however, is that God has a plan of good for those who love him, and the center of His divine will is the safest place we can and ever will be.
Thank Him

Another great way to start a conversation is by giving thanks. When praying in church, thank God for all he has done for you.
Like any parent, God loves to see that we are grateful, but, more importantly, as we commit time to praise God for the good that He has done.
Our faith to believe for even greater answers to prayer becomes more confident and much stronger.
Praise can open up the gates of Heaven, and in our alone time with Him, we should always praise God.
Tell Him What You Need
Bread was a staple in the time of Jesus. It was and still is one of life’s most basic needs, and he did not hesitate to ask God his Father to provide it.
However, we often hesitate to come to God for the little things in life that we need because we think that he should not be bothered.
Then, when more serious problems come, we try everything in our power to solve the problem before we even consider praying.
The Bible says that ‘You do not have because you do not ask God.’
So, you should never think twice before coming to God and asking for what you need. He delights in giving his followers good gifts.
Pray With Another
When we pray in Jesus’ name, there is power in agreement. When you have an urgent need that you need to present to God, you should call upon a friend to pray with you.
If you don’t already have one, consider finding a trusted partner in prayer as one of your New Year’s resolutions.
Ask for Forgiveness
In James 5:16, we are reminded that if we wish for our prayers to be heard, our hearts need to be right with one another and with God.
If you feel as though your prayers are not being heard, take some time to check your heart and ask God for forgiveness for your transgressions.
Pray the Word

When Jesus was tempted by Satan in the Wilderness, he would claim a scripture of promise from the Holy Bible.
He was the Son of God, but he did not exercise his divine authority; rather, he used the authority of the Scriptures.
Praying the Word can often bring clarity to your prayers so that they might be better understood by both you and God.
Why Prayer is Important
Prayer is your personal conversation with God and is a tool with which you can develop a meaningful and personal relationship with Him.
It’s how you can perform your own miracles in your heart. Through prayer, He can align your life and bring clarity to your vision.
It is a high privilege to be able to converse with God, and through prayer, you will receive immense blessings.
Prayer can set or even change the course of your day.
When you start your day with a prayer, you will be filled with hope for a new day and your mind will be in the right place to receive the bounteous joys and blessings that God has in store for you.
